What is Alcohol Addiction?

A multi-faceted challenge
Alcohol addiction, also known as alcoholism, is a disorder that can impact people from all walks of life. Experts have tried to pinpoint factors such as race, sex, genetics, or socioeconomic status that may predispose someone to alcoholism, but there’s no single cause. What Drug Addiction Treatment Entails

The first step in recovering from any addiction is to acknowledge there is a problem in the first place. Once you or a loved one accepts that fact, then you can move forward to recovery. What that looks like is different for everyone. There are many different modalities to treating addiction and involves a customized program that involves a holistic approach. Medical Detox

Before you can journey through the treatment process of addiction, the first thing you need to do is detox from the drug or drugs in your system. This can take days or weeks, depending on the type of drugs and the duration of them. It’s a time where you are monitored round-the-clock, so you remain safe. Medication for detoxing includes Methadone and Buprenorphine (Suboxone, Subutex, and Zubsolv). To reduce cravings after medical detox, you can also take Naltrexone.

During this phase, medical personnel also address any medical issues and administer any additional medication if necessary. You can also choose to be under anesthesia for detoxification, but there are some cautions to consider and are best discussed with your doctor.

Residential Customized Treatment

If you decide to get treated in a residential treatment center, a customized treatment program will be designed and implemented for you. This includes addressing underlying mental health issues as well. As part of the treatment options, you may participate in the following recovery services once you’re past detoxification:
