Information on Utah County Substance Abuse
Substance abuse in Utah County is lower than most of the nation and most other parts of Utah. There is still a significant problem though. Rates of abuse has gone up quickly over the past few years. Methamphetamine is the highest reported primary drug abused when individuals are admitted. The majority of these users are woman.
In the past five years Utah County substance abuse for heroin have more than doubled. Marijuana usage has been the top abused drug by youth for Utah County over the past few years.
20% of all individuals admitted to Utah County substance abuse treatment centers were from alcohol addiction in 2005. That statistic has risen to 32% in 2009 and is the highest percentage of addictions for admitted individuals.
Methamphetamine was the highest reported illicit drug from 2000 to 2005 but has come down from 25% in 2005 to 10% in 2009.
Marijuana has stayed about the same over the last 5 years being about 17% of the substance abuse problem for all admitted individuals.
Cocaine and Crack remains just under 5% of all admitted individuals’ addictions.
Utah County is a place known for high standards and strong family ties. There is still problems that need attention and family can play a strong role in helping with a loved one’s substance abuse problem.
